RBTL Faces Problems With Ticket Scalping

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League said its patrons have faced numerous problems with secondary ticket sellers of late, particularly from websites unaffiliated with the RBTL.

“It’s awful because it always happens during the really popular, hot shows,” said Linda Glosser, Executive Vice President of the RBTL.

There are two problems related to tickets, according to Glosser.

Benefit’s Producers Condemn Scalpers

After days of complaints from music fans, the producers behind the 12-12-12 benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy victims denounced scalpers on Friday for reselling tickets to the event on StubHub and other Web sites for many times their face value.

The producers — James Dolan of Madison Square Garden, John Sykes of Clear Channel and the film producer Harvey Weinstein — urged people to shun the tickets popping up in the secondary market and to give to charity instead.

“It’s despicable,” Mr. Weinstein said. “Don’t buy them.”

A concert ticket tug-of-war is pitting die-hard fans of Barbra Streisand against money-hungry scalpers.

The Brooklyn-born superstar’s one-night-only “Back To Brooklyn” concert is sparking a Babs buying frenzy that is already getting ugly, CBS 2′s Dave Carlin reported Thursday.

Pre-sale tickets for the Oct. 11 show at the new Barclays Center sold out in minutes, and now resellers and scalpers want tens of thousands of dollars for them.

Second Brooklyn show for Streisand

Barbra Streisand fans rejoice – the legendary songstress yesterday agreed to do a second show this October in her hometown of Brooklyn after tickets for her first-ever borough performance were gobbled up within minutes.

Streisand spokesman Ken Sunshine said the Oscar- and Grammy-winning diva opted to do second show Oct. 13 at the new Barclays Center “because of the overwhelming reaction of people wanting to see her perform in Brooklyn.”

Many loyal fans were shut out of Streisand’s Oct. 11 performance at Barclays Center because scalpers gobbled up most of the tickets through special pre-sales and then listed them on secondary-market sites long before they went on sale to the general public.

Try the box office first

As the summer comes barreling toward us, there is nothing I can do to stop my excitement for all of the concerts that come with it.

Seeing a few shows at SPAC are what defines a great summer, and with the schedule released and some shows already selling tickets, a girl like me can’t resist the temptation to see what’s available.

So today, my friend Logan and I started looking for tickets for Demi Lovato and Hot Chelle Rae’s show on June 26.

Being the sports fan that I am, the first site I chose to visit was Stubhub (because most of the time you can find cheaper seats to Yankee games there), but I was shocked to find that the prices for Demi’s show were ridiculous!

Despite safeguards to protect buyers, online scalpers are using high-tech programs to skip the electronic lines of legitimate ticket services and sell seats at big markups on the Web. Industry experts say the problem is reaching critical mass.

Premium floor seats for Bruce Springsteen’s show at Madison Square Garden on Friday are listed on secondary ticket broker sites at more than $5,900 for a pair, while the lowest-priced pair is $200 — a 129% increase from the face value, according to data provided by price tracker TiqIQ.com.

Springsteen fan fears $2,396 loss in ticket scam

Denis Sheehan loves Bruce Springsteen. I mean, he really loves Springsteen.

Sheehan first saw the singer at the Palace Theater in 1976, and something just clicked. He’s hardly listened to anybody else since. To his wife’s chagrin, he’s even been known to put a Springsteen photo on the mantel in the family’s Guilderland home.

Yet even such a devoted fan is unwilling to pay $2,396 for four Springsteen tickets.
